Licensing & Test ReadinessStandalone practice
Sam is 19 and has never held a driver's license. Sam gets a beginner's permit on March 1. How long must Sam hold the permit before trying for a regular driver's license?
Correct answer: At least 30 days, so Sam may apply on the 31st day or later.
Why
The 30-day rule has been law since November 13, 2024 (2024 Act No. 146), and the current manual now shows it. During the 30 days, Sam may drive only with a licensed driver age 21 or older, who has at least one year of experience, in the seat beside Sam; stricter supervision rules apply from midnight to 6 a.m. Use the time to practice in different conditions before the skills test.
