Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a four-lane highway, you move into the left lane to pass a car that goes a little slower than you. How should you handle the time beside that car?
A is beside B in the left of two eastbound lanes on a four-lane highway. Double yellow lines separate the two empty opposing lanes from A and B.
Correct answer: Pass without delay at a lawful speed, so that you spend as little time as you can beside it.
Why
Side-by-side travel is risky on a multilane road: the other driver may not see you, and neither of you has room to move sideways. When you pass, go by at a steady, lawful speed and move on. If you do not plan to pass, drop back instead of riding next to the other vehicle, and keep a space cushion on both sides where you can.
