Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive slowly down a residential street. Ahead, a driver starts to back out of a driveway and does not seem to see you. You have time to slow down. How should you use your horn?
A approaches along a residential street while B, facing into a driveway, backs toward the roadway. A dark downward motion arrow states B’s reverse movement; it is not a selected safe route or response.
Correct answer: Tap the horn lightly while you slow down, because the driver may not see you.
Why
Use the horn only when you need to communicate with other road users; needless use can scare or anger people, and the law allows it only when reasonably necessary. Do not use the horn near a pedestrian who is blind. Near bicyclists, avoid the horn unless a collision may happen, because a loud sound can make a rider swerve.
