Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive behind a school bus on a four-lane highway with two lanes each way. The bus stops in the right lane, turns on its flashing red lights and extends its stop arm. You are in the left lane, behind the bus. What must you do?
A is behind stopped school bus B in the left southbound lane. B occupies the right southbound lane with its red lamps and extended stop arm visible. A median separates two empty opposing northbound lanes.
Correct answer: Stop, and stay stopped until the bus moves again or its red lights stop flashing.
Why
The exception for opposite-direction traffic on a highway with four or more lanes exists because bus routes are planned so that students do not cross such a road. The law also bans passing a school bus with flashing amber lights, which show that it is preparing to stop. After the lights go off, move slowly and watch for children.
