A two-lane road is down to one open lane in a work zone. A flagger holds a sign that shows SLOW and waves you to drive past the cones on the left side of the double yellow line. What should you do?
A approaches a one-lane work zone. Cones close its normal lane, and the flagger faces A with a SLOW paddle and a beckoning hand. A larger detail shows the same unchanged worker and gesture. The card states the direction indicated by the flagger.
Correct answer: Drive slowly on the path that the flagger shows, and watch for workers
Why
A flagger can tell you which way to go, or tell you to slow down or stop. Drums, cones and tubes keep traffic out of the dangerous parts of the zone, and a temporary traffic signal may also control traffic; if it shows red, stop at the white line if there is one. Give the workers a brake: slow down, do not tailgate, and be ready to stop suddenly.
