You reach a single-lane roundabout. A car that is already in the circle is coming toward your entry from your left. What should you do?
Blue car A approaches a single-lane roundabout. Silver car B is already in the circle, coming toward A’s entry from A’s left. No direction arrows, selected entry course, priority mark or instruction is shown in the question.
Correct answer: Yield to that car, then turn right into the circle and go counterclockwise when it is safe.
Why
A roundabout works because all traffic flows one way at low speed, and entering drivers fit into gaps. Slow down as you approach, yield to vehicles already in the circle, and enter when there is room. Signal before your exit so that drivers who wait to enter know your plan. Roundabouts remove head-on and high-speed right-angle crashes, which makes them safer than a normal intersection.
