Your light is a steady green circle, and you wait in the intersection to turn left. An oncoming car is close and still coming. The driver behind you sounds the horn. What should you do?
A faces east inside the intersection under a steady green circular signal and plans to turn left. Oncoming B is close, and the following car C sounds its horn as stated in the card.
Correct answer: Turn only after it passes, because you must yield to close oncoming traffic.
Why
Left turns across traffic are a common cause of serious crashes, because a driver misjudges the speed or distance of an oncoming vehicle. Look for motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians too, because they are harder to see. When you are not sure how fast an oncoming truck or bus is going, do not turn in front of it: it may be faster than you think, and it needs more distance to stop.
