You wait at a stop sign to turn onto a main road. A motorcycle comes toward you on the main road with its right turn signal flashing, as if it will turn into your street. What should you do before you pull out?
A waits fully visible behind the STOP line on a side street. Motorcycle B approaches straight along the main road. Close badges identify both road users; the card states B’s right turn signal is flashing.
Correct answer: Pull out only after the rider clearly starts the turn, because the signal may not cancel.
Why
Motorcycles are small, so drivers often misjudge their speed and distance, and many crashes happen when a car pulls out or turns in front of one. The manual gives the same advice for all vehicles: do not pull out only because an approaching vehicle has its signal on. Before you turn left, look carefully to the front and sides for motorcycles.
