Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You follow a slow car up a hill on a two-lane road that has no center line markings. You cannot see over the top of the hill. What should you do?
A follows slow car B uphill on a two-lane road without center line markings. A separate labeled side profile identifies the hill crest, and the card states that A cannot see over it.
Correct answer: Stay behind the car until you can see far enough ahead to pass safely.
Why
A pass needs a long, clear view of the oncoming lane, because two vehicles that meet head-on close the gap at their combined speeds. Hills, curves, intersections, and the approaches to railroad crossings and bridges hide traffic or add conflicts, so do not pass there. A few seconds of patience cost far less than a head-on crash.
