Sharing the RoadStandalone practice
You drive at 30 mph on a two-lane city street, in the middle of a long block. There is no crosswalk here; the nearest one is at the corner, far ahead. About 150 feet ahead, a man steps off the curb and starts to walk across your lane. Which statement is correct under South Carolina law?
Correct answer: He must yield to you, but you must still slow down and stop if needed to avoid him.
Why
The right-of-way rule does not change your duty to prevent a crash. The manual tells you to always be ready to yield to pedestrians, even when they are not in a crosswalk, because people on foot are hard to see and their next move is hard to predict. Use the horn only when a warning is necessary, never to push a person out of your way.

On a rural two-lane road, you are behind a horse-drawn buggy. The road ahead is straight and clear. The buggy starts to slow down near a farm lane on the left. What should you do?A bicyclist ahead of you in the right lane reaches a steady red light. The rider wants to go straight across the intersection. What does South Carolina law now allow the rider to do?You wait to turn at a two-way stop. A bicyclist on the cross street slows down at the stop sign, sees no pedestrians and no moving traffic near the intersection, and rides through without a full stop. How does South Carolina law treat the rider's action?A bicyclist ahead of you holds the left arm out to the side with the elbow bent and the hand pointing up. What does the rider plan to do?You drive in the right lane of a four-lane highway with two lanes in your direction. Ahead, a pickup truck is stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights flashing. No police, fire, EMS or tow vehicle is there. The left lane is clear. What does South Carolina law require you to do?On a dry road, you follow a motorcycle. Just ahead, railroad tracks cross the road at an angle. How should you set your following distance?
