You are on a side street at an RCUT intersection and want to turn left onto the divided main road. How do you do it?
A faces north on a side street that meets only the eastbound side of a divided main road. The median separates the main road’s directions, with a separate median opening farther right. Both main-road directions continue to the left and right; no route for A is selected.
Correct answer: Turn right onto the main road, then make a U-turn at the one-way median opening ahead.
Why
RCUTs reduce the number of points where vehicles can collide, and they help prevent severe right-angle crashes. An RCUT may be controlled by a traffic signal, a stop sign, or a merge or yield sign. Follow the signs and lane markings to the U-turn opening, and yield as the signs direct.
