Passing target: 80% (24/30)
A car follows you very closely on a two-lane road. You plan to turn right into a parking lot about a block ahead. What is the safest way to handle the driver behind you?
Silver car B follows close behind blue A on a two-lane road. A parking-lot entrance is ahead on the right; the card states A plans to turn there.
Correct answer: Signal early, and slow down gradually with extra space ahead of you.
Why
You cannot control the driver behind you, but you can give that driver more time. Keep extra space in front so that you can slow gradually instead of stopping suddenly, and let your turn signal and brake lights warn the driver early. If the driver passes you, stay in your lane and keep a steady speed. Do not answer with brake taps or speed changes that can start a conflict.
