Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are driving on a highway and want to move into the right lane. The only open space is about two car lengths in front of a loaded tractor-trailer that is going 55 mph. What should you do?
A is in the left highway lane, beside a short open space ahead of loaded tractor-trailer B in the right lane. Car C bounds the front of the gap, which the card gives as about two car lengths; B is going 55 mph.
Correct answer: Wait for a larger gap, because a loaded truck needs far more distance to stop than a car.
Why
When you pass a truck, move back in front of it only when you can see its whole front in your rearview mirror. Then keep your speed, so that the truck does not have to brake for you. These steps keep you out of the truck's front No Zone, where a crash is likely if traffic ahead stops.
