Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
You drive on a city street lined with homes and shops. You have not seen any speed limit sign. Under South Carolina law, what is the maximum speed in this urban district?
Correct answer: 30 mph, unless a sign shows a different limit.
Why
The law defines an urban district as an area built up with homes or businesses less than 100 feet apart for at least a quarter of a mile. Other default limits are 55 mph on most other highways and 40 mph on unpaved roads; 60 and 70 mph apply only where signs post them. A speed limit is the maximum for ideal conditions, so drive slower when traffic, weather or pedestrians make it necessary.
