Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are stopped at a crossing with two sets of tracks. A long freight train passes on the near track. After its last car clears, the red lights keep flashing and the gate stays down. What should you do?
Blue A is already stopped before a lowered railroad gate. Two tracks cross the road. The last freight car on the nearer track has cleared A’s lane, while paired red lights remain active on the crossbuck mast. No other car leads A and no route goes around the gate.
Correct answer: Stay stopped, because another train may be coming on the other track
Why
Some crossings have more than one track, and a sign may show the number of tracks, but not every such crossing has that sign. A passing train can block your view of a second train on the next track. Before you cross, look along every track, and cross only when the signals have stopped and no train is coming.
