Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane road, a school bus ahead of you turns on its flashing amber lights but has not stopped yet. If you pass it, what is the highest speed South Dakota law allows?
Blue A follows yellow school bus B north on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. The bus has not stopped and its amber warning lamps flash, shown again in a close detail. There is no passing route or selected speed.
Correct answer: No more than 15 mph, and you must pass the school bus with caution.
Why
Amber lights tell you that the bus is about to stop to pick up or drop off children. When the red lights flash, you must stop at least 15 feet from the bus and stay stopped until the red lights go off. On a highway with two or more lanes each way, drivers going the opposite direction do not have to slow or stop.
