Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You plan to turn right at the second street ahead. The first street is about 150 feet ahead, and your street is about 300 feet ahead. When should you start your turn signal?
Blue A approaches two right-hand side streets. The first is 150 feet and the intended second street 300 feet from A’s starting front bumper.
Correct answer: After you pass the first street, while at least 100 feet remain before your turn.
Why
Signal at least 100 feet before a turn; at higher speeds, a signal 4 to 5 seconds before the turn is better. Do not signal too early when a street, driveway or entrance comes before your turn: pass it first, then signal. After the turn, make sure that the signal shuts off, so others do not think you will turn again.
