On a highway, double solid white lines separate your lane from the lane to your left. Both lanes go in your direction. Your lane slows down, and the lane on your left moves faster. What do the lines allow?
Blue A and silver B occupy the lower right lane of an eastbound highway. Silver C occupies the left lane. Two continuous white lines separate the lanes. The card states A’s lane slows while the left lane moves faster.
Correct answer: You must not cross them; stay in your lane until the marking allows a change.
Why
Double solid white lines mark places where lane changes are not allowed. A single solid white line also tells you to stay in your lane, unless an emergency requires a change. Only a broken white line allows a normal lane change, and only when it is safe.
