Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive across a railroad crossing that has a crossbuck with red lights and no gate. Your car is on the tracks when the red lights start to flash. What should you do?
Car A straddles both rails of a railroad crossing when its red warning lights start to flash. A crossbuck and lights are on the right approach, and there is no gate.
Correct answer: Keep moving and drive off the tracks, since the warning gives time to clear them.
Why
Crossing signals start before the train arrives, so that cars already on the tracks can drive off. A driver who has not reached the tracks must stop not more than 50 feet and not less than 15 feet from the nearest rail. Before you start across any crossing, make sure that there is room for your whole car on the far side, so that you never have to stop on the tracks.
