Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You approach a marked crosswalk with no traffic signal. A pedestrian started to cross from the far side of the road and is now in the opposite lane, walking toward your lane. What must you do?
A approaches westward in the upper lane, well before a marked crosswalk with no signal. A north-facing pedestrian is walking from the far sidewalk through the opposite lower lane toward A’s lane.
Correct answer: Stop before the crosswalk, and let the pedestrian finish crossing.
Why
Not all crosswalks are marked: at many intersections there is a crosswalk even without painted lines. Stop before the first line of a marked crosswalk, so that the whole crosswalk stays clear. A person on foot has no protection in a crash and depends on you to stop.
