Passing target: 70% (28/40)
You drive out of a driveway in a residential area. A teen on a scooter rides along the sidewalk toward your driveway, and cars come along the street. What must you do?
Blue A approaches the sidewalk across a driveway. A helmeted teenager rides a kick scooter to the right along that sidewalk. Silver B and C approach the driveway from opposite directions on the street. An inset enlarges the same rider.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, yield to the scooter rider, then yield to cars on the street.
Why
Walls, hedges and parked cars can hide people on the sidewalk until the last moment, so the stop before the sidewalk gives you time to see them. A 2025 Texas law calls a person on a bicycle, scooter, skateboard or skates on a sidewalk a "sidewalk user," and drivers must yield to sidewalk users as they do to pedestrians. After the sidewalk is clear, move forward and yield to vehicles on the road before you enter it.
