Passing target: 70% (28/40)
You want to park at the curb on a city street. Ahead of you, before the corner, is a STOP sign at the side of the road. What is the closest that you may park to the STOP sign, on the side where traffic comes up to it?
A approaches a STOP sign before a city-street corner and plans to park along the right curb. A is still in the travel lane; no parking position, distance bracket or minimum value is shown.
Correct answer: No closer than 30 feet
Why
A car parked just before a STOP sign, YIELD sign or traffic signal can hide the sign from other drivers, and it can hide children and cars from the driver who stops there. Texas law keeps the last 30 feet before these devices clear. Other distances apply too: 15 feet from a fire hydrant, 20 feet from a crosswalk at an intersection, and 50 feet from the nearest rail of a railroad crossing.
