You park facing uphill on a street with a curb. Which way should you turn your front wheels before you set the parking brake?
A is beside a right-hand curb and faces uphill. A separate side-profile line shows the grade rising in the car’s direction. This is the initial positioning view before the driver selects a wheel setting.
Correct answer: Away from the curb, so that the back of the front tire rests against it
Why
If the parking brake fails, a car that faces uphill rolls backward. With the wheels turned away from the curb, the back of the front tire catches on the curb and stops the car. Facing downhill, turn the wheels toward the curb, and where there is no curb, turn them toward the edge of the road so that the car rolls away from traffic.
