Diego is 17 and has a provisional license. In February he is convicted of speeding, and in October of the same year he is convicted of running a stop sign. What can DPS do?
Correct answer: Suspend his license, after notice and a chance for a hearing
Why
Texas watches young drivers more closely: a driver under 18 can lose the license for two moving violations within 12 months, while any driver can lose it for four within 12 months or seven within 24 months. The notice from DPS tells the driver how to ask for a hearing, and a request for a hearing holds the suspension until the decision. Driving while the license is suspended is a separate offense with stronger penalties.
