Correct answer: C. The street ends without a link to another street.
Why
DEAD END is a warning sign at the entrance to a street that ends without a link to another street. You may drive in, but you must come back out the same way. If you do not need to go in, turn at another street. A NO OUTLET sign is similar, but it warns that a whole group of roads has no other way out.
Why the other answers are not correct
- A. DEAD END is a warning sign; you may drive in, but you must come back out the same way.
- B. A street that meets another road at a T has a way out; a dead-end street does not connect to another street.
- D. A change from pavement to gravel is shown by a PAVEMENT ENDS sign, not by a DEAD END sign.
