You wait in a left-turn lane. Your green left arrow comes on, but a pedestrian who started on the last walk signal is still in the crosswalk of the street that you will turn onto. What should you do?
Blue car A waits in a left-turn lane. Its signal detail shows a green left arrow, and pedestrian B is still in the crosswalk of the receiving street.
Correct answer: Wait until the pedestrian is out of your path, then complete the turn on the arrow
Why
In Utah, a green arrow lets a driver enter the intersection only to make the movement that the arrow shows. The driver must still yield to pedestrians in an adjacent crosswalk and to traffic that is lawfully in the intersection when the arrow comes on. A pedestrian who started to cross before the change can need a few more seconds to finish. Look at the crosswalk on the street that you turn onto before you start the turn.
