Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
On a dry, clear day you pass this sign. The traffic around you moves at about 52 mph. What is the highest speed at which you may lawfully drive here?
Correct answer: 45 mph, even when other traffic moves faster
Why
Utah's basic speed law also requires a speed that is reasonable and prudent for the existing conditions, so in rain, snow, fog or heavy traffic the safe speed can be lower than 45 mph. When no sign is posted, the law sets 25 mph in business and residential areas and 55 mph in most other places. Posted limits come from engineering and safety studies of each road.
