Licensing & Test ReadinessStandalone practice
Nora is 16. She got her Utah learner permit on February 1. By April 20 she has finished driver education and her 40 practice hours. What is the earliest date she can apply for her first Class D license?
Correct answer: August 1, six months after she got the permit
Why
The holding period depends on age: six months at ages 16 and 17, no holding period at 18 if the applicant completes driver education, and 90 days at 19 or older unless the applicant completes driver education. The six months give a teen time to practice in many types of traffic and weather. Before the license, Nora must also pass the driving skills test and the online Traffic Safety and Trends Exam.
