On a two-lane road you come up behind a person who rides a horse. The horse seems nervous. What should you do?
A approaches a horse and rider B on a two-lane road. The horse's head is lifted and the card states that it seems nervous.
Correct answer: Slow down, and pass slowly with the full other lane only when that lane is clear
Why
A person who rides an animal or drives an animal-drawn vehicle has the same rights on the road as a driver of a motor vehicle. Vermont law requires you to take every reasonable precaution so that you do not frighten the animal. When you follow a horse and rider, stay at least 4 seconds behind them. A driver who is careless near animals can be charged with negligent operation.
