You are already driving inside a roundabout when an ambulance with its siren and red lights on comes up behind you. What should you do?
A blue car and a white ambulance behind it are inside a single-lane roundabout. The ambulance’s siren and red warning lights are stated in the card.
Correct answer: Continue to your exit, leave the roundabout, then pull over to the right and stop.
Why
Vermont law requires drivers to pull to the right and stop for an emergency vehicle that uses a siren or flashing red or blue lights. In a roundabout, do this where it is safe: if you have not entered yet, pull over and let the emergency vehicle pass; if you are already in it, exit first and then pull over. A stop inside the circle can trap the emergency vehicle behind you.
