On a four-lane road, you plan to move one lane to the right. Your inside mirror and your right side mirror both show that the lane is clear. What should you do before you move over?
A is in the left lane and plans to move right. The card states that the inside and right mirrors appear clear; no blind-spot area is highlighted before answering.
Correct answer: Glance over your right shoulder, and then signal and move over.
Why
Every car has blind spots that its mirrors do not cover, next to and just behind the vehicle. Before a lane change, check your mirrors, turn your head to look over the shoulder on the side you move to, and watch for another driver who may move into the same lane. West Virginia law lets you leave your lane only after you make sure that the move is safe.
