Passing target: 80% (24/30)
A narrow two-lane road has no center line markings. You are behind a slow farm tractor as the road climbs toward the top of a hill, and you cannot see beyond the top. What should you do?
A follows a green tractor on a road without center lines. A side-profile inset shows the hillcrest that blocks the view ahead.
Correct answer: Stay behind the tractor until you can see far enough ahead to pass safely.
Why
A pass puts you in the lane of oncoming traffic, so you must see far enough ahead to finish the pass before you meet anyone. Near a hilltop or curve, an oncoming car can appear with no warning, and a head-on crash is one of the most severe types of crash. West Virginia law forbids driving left of center in these places even where no no-passing line is painted, so wait for a long, clear view.
