On a multilane road, a solid white line separates your lane from the lane on your left. Traffic in both lanes moves in your direction. What does the line tell you?
A travels beside a solid white line. The adjacent lane is on the same side of the yellow center line and carries traffic in the same direction.
Correct answer: Stay in your lane and do not change lanes across it.
Why
White lines separate lanes that move in the same direction. A broken white line lets you change lanes when it is safe, but a solid white line between lanes tells you not to change lanes, often near intersections, ramps or other hazards. Solid white lines also mark the right edge of the pavement, which helps you stay on the road at night and in bad weather.
