Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You come to a full stop at a STOP sign. The cross street has no STOP sign. A car on the cross street is coming from your left and is close to the intersection. You got to the intersection before it did. What should you do?
A has stopped on the signed approach to an intersection. B comes from A’s left along the cross street, which has no STOP sign.
Correct answer: Wait until the other car has passed, and then go when the way is clear.
Why
A STOP sign requires two things: a full stop, and a yield to pedestrians and all cross traffic before you move again. At an intersection where only your road has STOP signs, cross traffic does not stop, so you must wait for a safe gap. Do not assume that the other driver will stop too; watch the vehicle and go only when it has passed and the way is clear.
