Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You drive onto a freeway entrance ramp. A sign reads RAMP METERED WHEN FLASHING, and its lights flash. The ramp signal for your lane shows red. What should you do?
A approaches a freeway ramp’s white stop line. A two-lamp meter displays red for A’s lane, and the card states the warning sign’s lamps are flashing.
Correct answer: Stop at the white stop line, and go when the signal for your lane turns green.
Why
Ramp meters let cars enter the freeway one at a time, so the merge is smoother and the freeway moves better. Each lane of the ramp has its own signal. After the green, speed up on the ramp and merge into a safe gap.
