A railroad crossing has crossbucks with a sign that shows 2 TRACKS. It has no lights or gates. You stop, and a long train passes on the near track. The last car has just cleared the road. What should you do?
A has stopped before two railroad tracks. The last freight car has cleared the road on the near track; it still obstructs the view along the farther track. The crossbuck has an exact 2 TRACKS plaque and no lights or gates.
Correct answer: Wait until the train has moved far enough away that you can see the second track is clear.
Why
A train on the near track can block your view of a second train on another track. The handbook tells you to check for more than one track and to wait until the train is far away, so that you can see that the tracks are clear. Not every crossing with more than one track has a sign that shows the number of tracks. Wisconsin law does not let you cross while a train is so close that it is a hazard.
