Passing target: 80% (52/65)
The normal limit on a highway is 65 mph. In a work zone, signs post a 45 mph limit. Workers stand behind cones next to your lane. The road is dry, and traffic is light. What speed should you drive?
Correct answer: No more than 45 mph, and slower than that while you pass the workers next to your lane.
Why
Orange signs, cones and flags tell you to slow down. A posted work-zone limit is the maximum speed, and Wisconsin law also requires a lower speed when you pass road workers or when lanes, traffic or weather make it necessary. Workers stand only a few feet from moving traffic, and lanes can narrow or shift with little warning. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, because tailgating is a leading cause of work zone crashes.
