Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You drive at 65 mph in the right lane of a freeway. Your exit has a deceleration lane. Where should you do most of your slowing?
A travels in the right freeway lane at 65 mph. A separate deceleration lane branches away to the right; B follows behind A.
Correct answer: In the deceleration lane, after you move out of the freeway lane.
Why
Freeway traffic behind you expects you to keep up with the flow. Signal early, move into the deceleration lane, and then slow down gradually. Check your mirrors and the area around you as you leave the freeway. Watch the ramp for a curve or a lower posted speed, and be ready to stop at its end.
