You are about to turn right at a corner. A pedestrian who holds a white cane out in front starts to cross the street that you will turn into. What does Wisconsin law require of you?
A approaches a right-turn corner while B starts crossing the receiving street with a white cane. An unchanged cane-user detail makes the cane visible.
Correct answer: Stop at least 10 feet away, and wait until the person is off the road.
Why
A person who uses a white cane or a guide dog may not see your car or know where it will go. The 10-foot space lets the person hear the traffic and cross without fear of a car that comes too close. Do not sound your horn or rev the engine, because the noise can confuse the person.
