Passing target: 80% (52/65)
You are near the end of a freeway acceleration lane. A car in the right freeway lane is right next to you, and there is a large gap behind it. What should you do?
A is beside silver B near the end of the acceleration lane. The right freeway lane behind B is open, as stated in the stem; neither car has a selected route.
Correct answer: Adjust your speed so that the car goes by, then merge into the gap behind it.
Why
Freeway traffic does not have to make room for you. Some drivers slow down or move left to help, but you cannot count on it. Plan your merge early: look for a gap, match its speed and signal. Wisconsin law allows you to leave your lane only when the move is safe for traffic that comes from behind.
