You drive into thick fog on a two-lane highway. Which lights should you use?
Blue A travels in the right-hand lane toward a dense bank of fog. The road edges and yellow center lines fade from view ahead; no headlight setting is selected in the question image.
Correct answer: Low-beam headlights, and slow down
Why
In fog, use low-beam headlights; front fog lights can also help. Use red rear fog lights only in heavy fog and turn them off when visibility improves. Reduce your speed, but remember that crash risk is very high when your speed differs from other traffic by more than 15 mph. When you cannot see 10 seconds ahead, think about stopping at the nearest safe place off the road.
