Passing target: 80% (20/25)
In a business or residence district, you are leaving an alley or driveway across a sidewalk to enter a highway. What must you do?
Blue car A faces north in an alley below a continuous public sidewalk. Silver car B faces east in its lane on the public road. A is behind the sidewalk. There is no traffic signal or STOP sign controlling the alley exit.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, yield to pedestrians, then to traffic.
Why
Stop immediately before driving onto the sidewalk or its extension across the access. Yield to pedestrians and, before entering the roadway, to approaching highway traffic. If there is no sidewalk area, stop at the point nearest the street with a view of approaching traffic. Do not enter a traffic conflict and then try to yield.
