Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You want to park on the approach side of a stop sign that stands at the side of the road. The only open space would put your car about 25 feet before the sign. May you park there?
A is looking for a curb space. A dashed candidate outline ends 25 feet before the stop sign, as the stem states; no legal limit is shown.
Correct answer: No, because you must stay at least 30 feet from a stop sign
Why
A car that is parked near a stop sign can hide the sign from approaching drivers, who may then enter the intersection without a stop. It can also block the view of drivers who have stopped and must look for cross traffic. The same 30-foot rule applies to a flashing beacon and to a traffic signal at the side of the road.
