You plan to turn right at the next corner. A bicyclist is riding near the right edge just ahead of you. What should you do?
A is behind a bicyclist near the right edge as they approach the next corner.
Correct answer: Slow down and stay behind the bicycle until you can turn without cutting across it
Why
The 'right hook' crash happens when a driver passes a bicyclist and then turns right across the rider's path, or turns while beside the rider. Bicycles often move faster than drivers expect and are easy to overlook, so hold back and turn after the rider has gone by. Before any right turn, also look right for bicyclists, including riders coming the wrong way or on the sidewalk.
