Passing target: 80% (20/25)
Your light turns green, and you begin a right turn. A pedestrian has just stepped into the crosswalk of the street you are turning into. What should you do?
A faces a green traffic light and intends to turn right. The pedestrian is in the receiving lane at the marked crosswalk.
Correct answer: Stop and wait until the pedestrian is out of your path, then finish the turn.
Why
Under section 304.281, RSMo, a green light lets you go only after you yield to vehicles and pedestrians lawfully in the intersection or an adjacent crosswalk. Pedestrians have almost no protection in a crash, and a person crossing on a WALK signal has the right-of-way under section 304.291. Check the crosswalk before you start a turn, and look again before you complete it.
