Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You come up behind a bicyclist on a two-lane road. Oncoming traffic is steady, and your lane is too narrow to share. What should you do?
A follows a bicyclist near the right edge of a narrow two-lane road. C approaches in the opposite lane.
Correct answer: Slow down and wait behind, then pass using the other lane once it is fully clear
Why
RSMo 304.678 requires a safe passing distance and continued clearance until you are safely past, without naming a number of feet. The Missouri guide sets a clearer target: use the full width of the other lane, and do not pass until you can. A few seconds behind a bicycle cost little, while a close pass at road speed can push a rider off balance.
