Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are in the right lane of a four-lane interstate with two lanes in each direction. Ahead, a tow truck is stopped on the shoulder with its amber lights flashing. What should you do?
A travels in the right lane toward a tow truck stopped entirely on the shoulder. The card identifies its flashing amber warning lights.
Correct answer: Change to the left lane if it is safe; if not, slow down and pass with caution.
Why
Missouri's Move Over law protects people who work beside the road. It applies to any stationary vehicle that shows red, red and blue, amber, or amber and white lights, so it covers police cars and ambulances and also tow trucks and highway crews. On a road with at least two lanes in your direction, move to a lane not next to the stopped vehicle when you safely can; if you cannot, slow to a safe speed and pass with caution.
