Passing target: 80% (20/25)
The traffic light facing you is red, but a police officer standing in the intersection waves you through. What should you do?
A faces a circular red light while a police officer in the intersection gestures for A to go through.
Correct answer: Follow the officer's direction and go through with care.
Why
Traffic signals must be obeyed unless a peace officer directs otherwise, and knowingly refusing a lawful order from an officer who is directing traffic is a traffic infraction. Officers take over intersections during crashes, power failures, events and other emergencies, when the signals may not fit the traffic. Watch the officer closely, follow the hand signals, and still check that the way is clear as you go.
