Your light has just turned green. The car in the lane next to yours does not start to move. It waits at the crosswalk and blocks your view of the crosswalk ahead of it. What should you do?
A and B are stopped in adjacent lanes as their light turns green. B remains beside a crosswalk and hides the area directly in front of it.
Correct answer: Stay stopped until you can see that no one is crossing in front of it.
Why
This is a common way that pedestrians are hit: one driver stops, and a driver in the next lane passes and hits the person that the stopped car was hiding. The manual warns that the stopped vehicle can block your view of the pedestrian. Nebraska law bans passing a vehicle that is stopped at a marked crosswalk, or at an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, to let a pedestrian cross. The rule applies with or without a traffic signal.
