Jordan holds a Provisional Operator's Permit. He is driving three friends, ages 19, 20 and 22: one sits in front and two sit in the back seat. Who must be wearing a seat belt?
Correct answer: Jordan and each of the three passengers, in the front seat and in the back
Why
If the driver holds a POP or a school permit (SCP), Nebraska requires everyone in the vehicle to ride buckled, in every seat. For other drivers, the general law covers the driver and front-seat passengers, and anyone under 18 must be secured in any seat. Seat belts keep people in place during a crash and in the right position for the air bags, which matters most when the driver is still gaining experience.
